I have produced images for the annual CHC-Calendar years ago in 2007 and 2008, then there was a long pause...now, this year, I had the honour to do it again, thought about the concept...and came up with something new: This time I took really close portraits of people who are involved with the project on both continents, Africa and Europe.
The Portraits were matched/combined by Nana Cunz (Graphic designer) and me. MoPostproduction put the final "shine" on the images...thank you for your input and collaboration!!

Upcycling describes the process of taking apart Lufthansa planes that have left the fleet´s active service, and thus generating new value by creating furniture, wallets, deco elements etc. out of the "trash".
In Teruel, Spain, the planes are being taken apart, then the "filet parts" are further treated at the manufacturer´s companies.
Finally we see entirely new products.

The author and me spent a couple of days with the pilots of Alaskan Air, went to meet grizzlys and polar bears to produce an editorial story for Lufthansa Magazine...

Incredibly dedicated people:
Daniel Aufdenblatten and Richard Lehner, the two people who performed the highest ever helicopter rescue mission in the mountains.
They went to terrains higher than 7.000 meters within the Himalaya...
world record! ...and both of them are still pretty much down to earth!
We shot them for Lufthansa Magazine in Zermatt, CH.

Airbus A380 Painting

That was a very interesting job. I tried my best to protect camera and lenses against even the smallest particles of paint...forgetting to put a filter into my oxygen mask.
Anyway, it was a great experience to watch how these painters get the job done to spray a plane the size of an Airbus A380!

We produced this editorial story about Dan Silveira, US national spearfishing Champion in his hometown Half Moon Bay, close to San Francisco.
Dan took us along with him for two days. So we got the chance to get an insight view into his daily routine involving bicycling, diving, hunting, cooking etc.
He is pretty much what you would call an outdoor man.

Cargo Human Care is a non-profit organization put to life by Lufthansa Cargo pilots, namely by Fokko Doyen, the Cargo fleet commander.
CHC supports children in Kenya.
They built and help to operate an orphanage for children who lost their parents to AIDS.
CHC also supports a medical station that is part of the overall project.
I was there three times to produce images used for calendar productions.

While documenting the process of building Boeing´s 747-8, I also photographed a series of "people at Boeing", it shows employees of the Company in a wide range of jobs, among them chief engineer Joe Sutter, who had already developed the original 747 back in the 1960´s.
Also a member of the K-nine-team (explosives sniffing dogs) was portrayed.
